Elena's POV
The road wound like a serpent through the forest, the headlights of the convoy slicing through the thick darkness. I sat in the back of the car, every muscle in my body tight with dread. My fingers clenched in my lap, trembling despite the warmth of Dante's coat draped over me.
He sat beside me, silent for most of the drive. But I could feel the weight of his guilt hanging between us like fog. He kept glancing at me, as if trying to find the right words and failing.
I'm not going to lie , but a part of me deep inside still loved him wholeheartedly. He was the father to my child after all even though he put me through hell. Why Dante , why did you do this to me , why did you let lies corrupt and make you condemn me were the words lingering in my mind , but I couldn't let them out.
