Chapter 64 - Adam Ceborati(2)

After the entire test which I found a bit odd, I was brought to another room.

This room was different as it was my new room, my new place to stay in. I was told that they would pay the rent if I do something for them.

I still remember those words the G.O told me when he read my test. I have to help out as many people as I can.

It's the duty of a man-no a human to spread the kindness they were given.

I then placed a simple empty box on the middle of the room. It's the only thing I was given after they took the carriage.

I turned around and decided to meet [] once's again. I walked outside and I didn't really noticed, but the building I'm occupying is tall. I guess I was to focused on what he said to remember much.

I am back to the port, it hasn't been even three days since I left yet it felt like it was forever. There he was standing next to a stand, he was unaware of my unexpected arrival.

"Aren't you going to greet me at all?" I said as [] turned and spotted me. His expression was the exact same as mines, he was happy to see me.

"Adam it's been only three days, don't you think you are returning to early? I expected you to be gone for a month before you returned." He said to me as he hugged me.

His arms were much more relaxed than before, and it felt comforting. His hair was much shorter than before yet he still looked as stunning.

"Sorry, I haven't had things to do in the district lately." I said as he let go of me, and we both took a small walk.

"Is there anything I can help you out with? I won't mind if you ask." [] said as he patted my back.

"Well yes I do kinda need your help, is there a job you know off that I can take? I mean as in a job that can help people specifically outside the district." I asked him with sincere.

"There is one job that I can think of." [] said as I leaned closer to him. "An Agronomist, I remember hearing about them. I don't know much but I do think you should become one." He said to me with a smile that said confidence .

"Yeah that sounds great, but I'll have to first learn what those are." I said a bit embarrassed scratching the back of my head.

"Adam, I do have to warn you that most valuable men end up with an undesirable end." His tone switch surprised me, and his face was now full of concern, he wasn't lying or joking.

The atmosphere changed and we both stopped walking. We are now staring at each other without moving.

Things were getting a bit intense so I smiled. "I don't mind that at all, I hope to help out others not myself."

"Adam that is very heartwarming of you to say, to be selfless is enough, but you are going beyond that. I'm lucky to have such a friend like you Adam, but I think you should go back now." He said as he turned to return back to the port.

How would I make the most of my life before I meet this undesirable end? After a bit I just kept on walking and I laughed a bit.

I do hope that [] is only exaggerating it as it seems impossible. Although I won't mind a tragic ending as I do believe my life should of ended before I meet that farmer.

I then kept on laughing even more at the fact that I'm laughing at a potentially serious moment. That ending is just me paying the price of escaping death.

As I returned from my short visit, I decided to return to that facility. As I thought G.O was there filing some paper work. He seemed more relaxed than when we meet.

I cleared my throat which caught his attention. "I want you to put me in a school, I want to become an agronomist." I said with full intention to him.

He stopped working for a bit and then he smiled at me. "Sure I can work with that." His smile was very off putting, and seemed to had something else to hide.

I then nodded and left the facility, I walked back to my bedroom. The box was still there, and I picked it up and put it on my bed. I opened it to see my two notebooks still there.

I then pulled out another green notebook, and began to write down everything that had happened today.

——-

It's been a while since I last touched this notebook, and there are a few things I want to write. First off the school wasn't much of a school.

It was just another square room with only me, and a stack of books. I had no teacher, but I managed by myself fairly.

I would spend five hours a day in that room reading and taking notes. The only good things about this was the daily tests I was given. This was a sign that they had knowledgeable people, but I wasn't given a teacher at all.

After a few more weeks a man entered the room, finally a teacher . This man was much different than I expected.

His eyes were full of vitality, and his smile gave people a sense of confidence. His voice was very tender as one would speak with their own child.

He was intelligent, and he taught me more than anyone else could. What he taught me no test or books could ever replicate.

One thing that caught my eye was how respectful he was to me. He seemed like a high status man yet he was humble and passionate.

This gave me some form of hope that maybe there are kind people high in the ranks. Of course these were the last things I wrote for a while as my life got too busy.

Suddenly I was woken up in the morning, I was still tired, and the outside was dark. I heard some knocking on the front door, I was a bit cranky, but I stood up and opened the door.

There he was the man who taught me, he was standing there fully dressed while I looked embarrassing.

"Now listen dear child, it's 3 AM in the morning, let's go get some breakfast." He told me as he pulled me out of my room.

"Wait! Did I hear that right, it's three in the morning?" I asked and he nodded, "oh…alright then." I said as I was confused, but I didn't want to say anything more.

He practically dragged me outside, and it was a bit awkward. He had a cane yet I was the one being walked by him. He brought me to a place nearby.

The man ordered us some food which the kind lady agreed, but was surprised that we were up this early. I was surprised people woke up this early as well.

"Adam listen, we have to talk about your future, I know what your intentions are. You want to help out people and it's clear." He said to me as he stared into my eyes.

"Yeah…it's my duty, and I won't give it away for money." I said to him as I placed my hands on my lap. The wind was a bit cold, but it was hot outside so it felt much nicer.

"I'm very moved by your commitment Adam, most men would only go for money. This type of education usually goes to other fields that make more money or statues yet you chose this isntead." He said to me.

"It's true that no matter what they improve the life's of others, but that's not what I want." He then began to tap on the table before he leaned forwards. "I know you are capable of helping people more than anyone of those ever could."

"I'll make you into an agronomist as soon as I possibly can." He said as he leaned back to a normal position.

"Thank you so much sir, I'm flattered by your praise." I said trying to not sound arrogant.

The man then smiled again, but it was much different that any other. "You give me a reason to smile everyday, and I want you to be proud of it." He said.

He then stopped smiling, and gave me a stare that told me I needed to listen to what he was going to say next.

"It's a shame I won't be able to see the day you get that job or even accomplish anything." He cleared his throat and continued, "I'm dying from a disease, and I have no more than two months left to live."

I was completely stunned, he was going to die before I can prove myself useful.

——-

I was in my bed crying, he was now dead. Before I could be more sad I heard another knock on my door.

"Ceborati, may I enter your room?" It was G.O, "I know that you're feeling sad by that news earlier, but you need to continue to do your work."

I forgot to mention, but it's been a while since that conversation. I didn't write on my notebook because his death affected me greatly.

I was now an agronomist like I promised, "I would be lying if I said I didn't cry for an hour straight when I got the news that he died." I said still crying.

I heard him sigh behind the door, he then opened the door. He had a key of his own that allowed him to enter my room whenever he wanted. I'm glad he doesn't do it often because he usually asks for my permission to enter my room.

"Ceborati, you have your first job to do now." He told me with a stern face.

"I'm sorry but I just can't help but feel sad, even if I didn't cry from his death I would still cry from the village that is now gone." I said as I looked up at him.

I didn't know that man much, but he was the only person in this district that I liked. A person who I can proudly say I wanted to be just like.

"Can I atleast go out and speak with my friend? I want to be with someone who will listen to me." I asked but he didn't seem to happy.

"No, you have your first job to do Ceborati." He rejected my request immediately which was harsh.

"Yeah I'm sorry for slouching a bit, you're right I need to get my things together." I said as I stood right back up and followed him.

As I followed him I thought about how he isn't the man I want to become. Thinking about it now I shouldn't have trusted him since the beginning.

He brings me inside this building that seems to be secured. Inside there was another man sitting down, he is a politician.

He smiled at me and stood up to shake my hand. "Nice to meet you Mr. Ceborati I have a job for you to do. It's this big chunk of land that you will turn into a farmland for the government to own and use."

"I will make sure to surprise you, and others with my work." I said as looked right at him, his smile felt weak, and his expression was of a soggy bed sheet.

This is now my opportunity to help out the people as with farms comes food. If I can turn this huge land into something worth farming then the government will be able to make food cheaper.

The government will definitely use the crops they will grow to feed the needy. I then left and took a deep and long breath. Finally I am able to help out others .

"Oh yeah my name is Keith." Said the politician, "I'll have you be escorted right away to the land, we have no time to waste."

With that currently I'm writing on my notebook while being transported. The journey isn't that bad, and I can handle it fairly.

"I heard a bit about you, and you're already a hero to me." Said the man who was guiding the horse.

His name is Samuel and he is a nice person. "Oh no don't say that, I'm only doing what everyone would." I can't believe I'm being praised even though I did nothing.

"I'm glad that you're helping us out as my daughter is currently sick, and I don't enough money to buy food and to buy her treatment." Samuel said to me.

"It's difficult to get a doctor as we don't live in the district, and it's expensive." He seemed really worried for his daughter.

"Listen I'll do my best in this project so that it could reach many families like yours." I said with a smile, this made him feel much better.

Now that I think about it , what would the farmers of the village think? Would they be proud of what I'm going to accomplish or what I am building?

A singular tear rolled out of my left eye, it dripped from my cheek to the floor.

This was a different type of tear as it wasn't due to sadness but gratitude. I knew they would be proud of me, they have always been.

"We have arrived." Samuel said as I stopped daydreaming. I got up and looked outside and it was unexpected.

"So you're going to turn this into something special aren't you." Samuel said as he looked at the land as well.

The land itself was barren, there was no singular form of vegetation. It seemed very dead, I kneeled down, and touched the ground with my fingers.

It wasn't completely dry as I could feel that it was still a bit cold. The weather isn't the problem at all then, I lifted my hands and saw the dirt.

"This will be a tougher job, but I'll try to experiment for a bit." As I said that another carriage arrived.

The doors opened, and Keith stepped outside looking very flashy. "Ceborati, you have exactly two years to turn this land around."

"Yeah that seems like a reasonable timeframe, I'll need as much help as I could." I said as I tried to examine the area.

Keith then smiled and turned around leaving, he could of told me this back at the building. I then shook my head as it doesn't matter anymore.
