I stared at Lucen. The silence filled the corridor, while every breath he took echoed in my head.
"What's going on, Lucen?" I asked softly, though my own hoarse voice sounded foreign to my ears.
Lucen shifted his gaze to his trembling hand, then looked back at me.
"The High Elves attacked the Fae Enclave... last night," Lucen said, without hiding the bitterness in his tone.
"They began without warning, without negotiations. A full assault, right at the heart of Fae territory."
My heart jumped. The Fae Enclave—the land of the faei. Now under attack by the High Elves?
My mind went blank. I opened my mouth to speak, but only a rasp came out.
"A surprise… attack?" I whispered.
Lucen nodded, his eyes betraying the look of someone trapped in prayer.
"They brought their full army, powerful mages from the Arcane Spire. The latest report this morning... the front is still active. No signs of them retreating."
I shivered, the image of war returning to my mind.
