Chapter 52 - No matter how much you guard, you can't protect everything

Julia, who had been planning to slip away unnoticed, froze at the sound of that spine-chilling "sister." She felt like she had just been hit by a truck!

Turning around with a slight smile, she saw the couple who had been praised all day for being a perfect match. Harry, dressed in a black suit, wore his usual indifferent expression. Bailey, in her dazzling white gown, was practically blinding everyone with her radiance.

"Sister, are you leaving already? You haven't even had a drink with us yet. How can you leave so soon?" Bailey's sweet smile was the epitome of a well-bred lady.

"I have something urgent to take care of," Julia replied.

"At least have one drink before you go. You are my dear sister, and today is my big day. You can't miss it," Bailey insisted, holding up a glass of wine. Since they had been toasting all evening, there were servers nearby holding trays of wine glasses and bottles.

Bailey reached for a glass from a tray, ready to hand it to Julia. But Julia, quick on her feet, grabbed a glass from a passing server's tray instead. There was no way she was going to drink anything Bailey offered her.

She remembered all too well how Bailey had once drugged her, causing her to lose control at the Edwards Family's place, nearly leading to an incident with one of their servants. Those memories were a constant reminder to stay vigilant.

Julia clinked her glass against Bailey's and downed the wine in one gulp. "See, I'm being a good sport, dear sister and brother-in-law," she said, her eyes shifting to Harry as she spoke.

Hearing the word "brother-in-law," Harry felt a sharp sting in his heart. Had she really let him go?

"Happy," he said coldly, striding forward without sparing Julia a glance.

Bailey smiled slightly and whispered in Julia's ear as she passed by, "Feeling sad? He didn't even look at you."

"Nothing to be sad about, I'm actually relieved!" Julia retorted.

"Heh, stop pretending. If it weren't for me, everything here today would be yours, my dear sister."

Bailey patted Julia's shoulder and quickly caught up with Harry.

Julia sighed quietly.

Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly felt dizzy.

Something was wrong!

This didn't feel right!

One drink shouldn't make her feel this way!

Could it be—

Bailey really had her figured out! She knew Julia would be cautious and had a waiter conveniently pass by!

It's very likely that the drinks the waiter served were spiked!

No, she had to leave immediately.

Julia tried to get up but fell back into her chair. The effect of the drug was too strong!

Bathroom! She had to get to the bathroom and throw up the alcohol she had just consumed! Maybe it would help a bit!

Julia looked around frantically. At that moment, a waiter approached her. "Miss, do you need any help?"

"Bathroom, where's the bathroom?"

"The bathroom is over there. Do you need me to take you?" The waiter pointed in the direction.

"No!" She couldn't trust anyone right now!

Julia Avery clung to a chair and managed to stand up, staggering as she held onto the wall, making her way toward the bathroom.

However, the effects of the drug were far beyond her expectations. Her head felt heavy, her feet light, and all she wanted was to find a bed and lie down immediately.

The same waiter quickly came over. "Miss, have you had too much to drink? Let me take you to the bathroom."

The waiter grabbed Julia's arm. Instinctively, she tried to shake him off, but his grip was tight, almost dragging her along the way.

Harry wasn't much of a drinker, but at an event like this, surrounded by big shots and celebrities, he had no choice but to drink.

Initially, someone was helping him fend off the drinks, but for some reason, Harry ended up drinking most of it himself, taking large gulps, even downing entire glasses.

Before long, he was also stumbling around, quite drunk.

"Brother Harry, you've had quite a bit. How about I handle things here while you go lie down in a room upstairs?" Bailey suggested, supporting Harry.

Harry looked pale and nodded at Bailey's suggestion.

"Then I'll have someone help you up. It's against the rules for both of us to stay here. I'll continue on my own."

Harry nodded again. Bailey gestured to a waiter, and after a brief exchange, the waiter assisted Harry out of the room.

Just after leaving the banquet hall, Harry rushed to the restroom and vomited, with the waiter attending to him nearby.

"Mr. Edwards, you've had too much to drink."

After he finished, the waiter helped Harry upstairs.

Tonight, the entire hotel was reserved for the Edwards Family, and any vacant room was available for use. However, the waiter continued to lead Harry up several floors.

This made Harry suspicious. Was someone deliberately arranging this?

Were they trying to take him somewhere while he was drunk?

Harry was always cautious and couldn't help but be skeptical, but he allowed the waiter to assist him.

The waiter brought Harry to a room. As soon as he entered, Harry noticed a pair of shoes.

These shoes?!

They looked like Julia's!

Despite not often focusing on Julia, Harry remembered clearly what she wore.

Could it be that Julia wanted to reconcile?

Harry smirked and pushed past the waiter, heading straight for the bedroom.

The waiter promptly closed the door and left.

Harry pushed open the bedroom door, and sure enough, there was a girl lying on the large bed in a pink dress. It was Julia!

"Julia..."

Harry stumbled to the bedside and collapsed next to Julia. He gently caressed her face.

"Julia, what's this? Are you jealous of the engagement party I prepared for Bailey? Regretting it now? Coming to throw yourself at me?"

"No problem, as long as you want, I'll break up with her right away and marry you, okay?"

Julia, in a daze, heard the voice and slowly opened her eyes. Harry's face loomed large before her.

"Harry Edwards!" she exclaimed in terror, staring at the drunken Harry.

"Didn't you refuse to sleep with me back then? Now you're using such tricks, but it's okay, Julia, I'll give you this chance."

With that, Harry pressed his lips against Julia's.

Julia turned her head forcefully to the side, trying to push Harry away, but it was no use.

She had no strength, and Harry seemed drunk. How could she push away a drunk man without any strength?

Impossible.

"No—Harry Edwards—get away from me!" Julia Avery screamed with all her might.

"What are you still holding back for? I don't even know what you're trying to be modest about!" Harry, seemingly out of his mind, grabbed Julia's dress and tore it open.

With a ripping sound, Julia instinctively covered her chest.

She never imagined that after a year of breaking up, they would actually end up like this—
