Chapter 53 - What a good daughter-in-law

In the grand ballroom, Bailey, known for her impressive drinking capacity, gracefully handled the toasts from all directions. The relatives and friends of the Edwards Family couldn't stop praising the family for having such a wonderful future daughter-in-law.

A waiter whispered something into Bailey's ear, prompting her to instinctively check the time.

Harry Edwards' parents, Hayden and Yasmine, were basking in the glory today.

Their son was young and promising, and their future daughter-in-law was not only a stunning beauty but also sensible and well-mannered.

Hayden, dressed in a black suit, exuded authority, while Yasmine looked elegant and noble in a white cheongsam with blue floral patterns. At this moment, they were busy entertaining the guests. Thanks to Bailey's grace and poise, she managed the guests effortlessly, sparing them from any worry. This made them even more satisfied with her.

Bailey, holding a wine glass, walked elegantly towards Hayden and Yasmine.

"Father, Mother, Harry seems to be feeling unwell. I want to check on him," Bailey said, her face full of concern.

Yasmine's expression changed immediately upon hearing that her precious son wasn't feeling well. "What's wrong with Harry?"

"Harry had too much to drink. I just had someone help him to a room upstairs. His stomach has been bothering him these past few days. I've been trying to shield him from drinking too much, but with so many guests today, he couldn't avoid it..." Bailey sighed softly. "I want to check on him. His stomach hasn't been well lately."

Yasmine had given the Edwards family a son and a daughter. Harry had a younger sister, and Yasmine, coming from a humble background, had only secured her place in the Edwards family after giving birth to Harry.

She had always treated Harry as her lifeline.

Upon hearing that Harry was unwell, she couldn't stay calm.

"Bailey, take us to Harry quickly! He's been frail since he was a child. Hurry, hurry!"

"Auntie, please don't worry. I can go by myself. There are so many guests here; it wouldn't be good if we all left," Bailey tried to reason.

Yasmine turned to Hayden, "You stay here. Bailey and I will go check on Harry."

Hayden, who also cared deeply for his son, reluctantly nodded.

Bailey and Yasmine headed straight for the elevator. They ran into Aidan, Penelope, and Bradley. Upon hearing that their son-in-law was unwell, Penelope, eager to curry favor with the Edwards family, immediately decided to follow Bailey into the elevator with her husband and son.

On the way, Bailey kept reassuring Yasmine, telling her not to worry.

Before long, they reached the room's door.

They pushed the door open, and there was no sound inside. But then, some noises came from the bedroom.

"Harry is in the bedroom," Yasmine said quickly, heading straight for it and pushing the door open. "Harry, are you okay?"

Inside the bedroom—

Harry Edwards was pinning Julia beneath him, her clothes half-torn off!

The sudden intrusion startled Harry, and he quickly looked up to see his mother's utterly shocked face.

By now, everyone had gathered at the bedroom door, all rendered speechless by the scene before them.

Harry quickly got up and put on his clothes, while Julia weakly tugged her dress back into place.

"Mom, you..." Harry stepped off the bed.

Yasmine was too shocked to say anything, pointing at Harry with a trembling finger.

"You—"

It was Bailey's sobbing that broke the silence.

"Sis, I told you, if you couldn't let go, I'd give Brother Harry back to you. But why did you have to do this?"

Bailey's tear-filled eyes looked at Julia on the bed.

Julia sat there, her gaze sweeping over everyone's faces before finally settling on Bailey's expression—

She finally understood everything!

Hearing Bailey's sobs, Yasmine's face softened a bit. From what Bailey said, it seemed she wasn't blaming Harry.

Penelope, like an enraged turkey, swiftly charged at Julia on the bed, grabbing her hair and yanking her off the bed.

"You little tramp! Raised without a mother! How dare you seduce your sister's husband! Watch how I deal with you!"

As she spoke, Penelope slapped Julia's face hard, alternating hands.

The loud "smack, smack" echoed through the presidential suite, deafeningly loud.

Harry wanted to step in and stop it, but Yasmine grabbed his arm, holding him back.

"Harry, are you seriously thinking of helping her? Do you even realize today is your engagement day with Bailey? This woman chose today to seduce you just to ruin your reputation! And you still want to help her?!" Yasmine scolded angrily.

"Mom—"

"Mom, please stop hitting her. It's my fault for falling in love with Brother Harry. I shouldn't have let my feelings get the better of me. It's all my fault. I'll give Brother Harry back to my sister!" Bailey cried as she rushed over and clung to Penelope's leg, sobbing uncontrollably.

Julia felt utterly drained, as if someone had sucked the life out of her. Her body was completely out of her control. She knew Bailey was about to put on another dramatic show.

"Bailey, what are you talking about?" Yasmine walked over and pulled Bailey up.

"There's no such thing as giving back or taking away in love. You love Harry, and Harry loves you. Love isn't about who came first! Besides, our Edwards family only acknowledges you as the daughter-in-law!"

Julia looked through the crowd and focused on Aidan, who stood silently at the door. She couldn't decipher the expression on his face.

That was her biological father, yet at this moment, all she saw in his eyes was indifference.

Yasmine held Bailey with one hand and Harry with the other, leading them to the living room.

"There are still many guests outside. If any of them find out about this, our Edwards family's reputation will be in ruins. You two should go and take care of the guests."

Yasmine looked at Bailey and gently patted her hand. "Bailey, I'm sorry for putting you through this."

Bailey shook her head while crying, "Auntie, it's okay. Let's just get through the engagement party today. Don't worry, I won't let anyone make a laughingstock of us. Even if I have to give Brother Harry back to my sister, I won't let Uncle and Auntie be embarrassed."

As she spoke, she lowered her head and started crying again.

Yasmine gently patted her head, feeling a pang of sympathy. What a considerate daughter-in-law.

Once again, Yasmine was convinced that replacing Julia with Bailey as the Edwards family's daughter-in-law was the right decision.

Bailey sniffled and took out some makeup from her handbag to touch up her face.

"Brother Harry, if you're not feeling well, just rest a bit longer. I'll go to the banquet hall to take care of the guests. We can talk about anything else when I get back."

With that, she turned and walked out the door.

Yasmine sighed quietly to herself.
