Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: John Constantine

[3rd POV]

Gazing at John Constantine, Wanda inwardly hummed in thought on why the man would be there. He wasn't strong or anything, not compared to her or Lucifer, but he was incredibly crafty, and quite the trickster. He also wasn't stupid, meaning that should he know about who she was, he was likely not here for a fight.

"So, what can I do for you, Constantine?" Wanda asked, deciding to not even hide the fact that she knew the man.

"Mmhm, right, of course you'd know who I am. Bloody Lords of Chaos" Constantine grumbled, looking like he wanted to be anywhere but there. Not a surprise to Wanda, as she doubted the man wanted to potentially battle it out with someone like her.

"Oh? What makes you think I am a Lord of Chaos?" Wanda asked with an amused expression, inwardly already having an idea about how the man knew. As she wasn't exactly hiding her power within the shop, and she didn't really care to. The man couldn't do anything to her, so he wasn't much of a threat.

"You're not exactly hiding it, are you? Can sense you from across the damn world as long as I know what to look for" Constantine replied with an eye roll, causing Wanda to raise an eyebrow at the response. It was true that she wasn't hiding it, but it was also quite hard to sense her normally, making it impressive that he had found her while Doctor Fate hadn't.

Although she suspected that Doctor Fate had an idea of where she was, and who she was, but was avoiding a confrontation with her until he was prepared for a battle. Not that any sort of preparation would be enough for him to contend with her.

"I suppose not. Although it is impressive that you have found me, when not even Fate or Zatara could" Wanda said with a small smile, sipping on her tea without a care in the world for the fact that the man in front of her could rat her out to the League at any moment.

"Not even surprised you know about them. What's a bloody Lord of Chaos doing running some bookstore?" Constantine asked, as he looked around the room, noticing Teekl who was sitting next to Wanda on the desk. He also noticed the magical books, some of them being quite powerful from what he could tell.

He didn't show it outwardly, but he was interested in them.

"It's what I enjoy, Constantine. And just because I utilize Chaos, does not mean I am a Lord of Chaos. I am quite a bit higher on the totem poll than them"

"Oh? And how high up are you then?" Constantine asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Hmm, on par with Lucifer and that brother of his, by my estimations. Death cannot claim me and Lucifer doesn't seem interested in fighting me or anything, so I'd assume I am around there in power" Wanda replied with a shrug, not really knowing for certain. She doubted Lucifer could beat her in a fight, but she also doubted she could beat him.

It would likely be an infinite draw.

At the mention of Lucifer and Death of the Endless, Constantine's eyes widened ever so slightly. Wanda inwardly noticed the sense of fear that began to come off the man. As while the man was a badass when dealing with someone like Trigon, or other demons, even he knew that he stood absolutely zero chance before a member of the Endless or Lucifer Morningstar himself.

"You have met Lucifer bloody Morningstar? Not only the damned devil himself, but also Death of the Endless herself too? Who exactly are you? No mere Lord of Chaos would get the attention of either of those two" Constantine asked, as while he could tell that Wanda was powerful, he couldn't exactly get a read on it. He just thought she was a Lord of Chaos, which while powerful, wasn't something that would bring the attention of anyone like Lucifer. This meant that she was much higher on the totem pole than any Lord of Order or Chaos

"Does it matter who I am? I'm simply a bit more than a mere Lord of Chaos, that's all. Now, would you like to buy any books or perhaps some bakery goods? I even have drinks of all sorts" Wanda said, as the man looked to the side in interest.

"For the books I take cash, exchange of books, and exchange of knowledge. The more interesting and rare the book is, the more it's worth for an exchange, and the more it costs to purchase" Wanda explained, as the man nodded slowly, before looking at the magic books shelves.

"Makes sense. Alright, I'll look through these books of yours. You got any whiskey I can get?" Constantine asked as Wanda smirked, reaching underneath the counter and pulled it out, the man handing her a 50 dollar bill for it, much to her surprise, before he took the bottle and walked over to the bookshelves with it.

Taking a sip of it, the man let out a sigh of pleasure.

'Damn this is some bloody good whiskey. Guess being whatever the hell she is gives her some neat perks' Constantine thought as he sipped on it, while looking over the shelves. Finding various books that looked rather interesting, like a book on dark magics from another world, a book on ancient Valyrian history and their magics, basic spells from Harry Potter, and many many many more.

Reading over the titles of each of the books, Constantine realized that he didn't recognize a single one of the books. They were all completely and utterly new to him, which was a surprise as he should have at least heard of a few of them, but nope, not a single one of them was recognizable.

Lifting one of the books, he flipped through it, scanning the pages in surprise the more and more he found. Placing the first book to the side, he continued to look through book after book, finding himself more and more absorbed into the various books that he was selecting.

A stack was soon formed from him as he found quite a few books that he wanted, mostly simple spells that he found could be useful, and even a couple books on the history of other worlds, like a history of magic book from Harry Potter.

After getting his stack of 9 books, he walked back over to Wanda.

"These books aren't from around here are they? These spells are completely different from what we use here" Constantine asked. Wanda smiled at the question.

"The multiverse is a wide infinite space, Constantine. And there is more than just that out there" Wanda said simply, causing the man to nod in understanding, as that was basically confirmation of his question.

"Well, these are the ones I want. You take cash?"

"I do, but I must ask, why have you come here, Constantine, besides the fact that you thought of me as a Lord of Chaos?" Wanda asked, the man stopping at the response before sighing.

"Because a couple of twats from the Justice League have been hounding me to look into this shop of yours. They were confident that you were either unknowingly taking alien books, or are a magic user. And it looks like they were right" Constantine responded.

"Hmm, about what I expected. Alright, that'll be 450 dollars" Wanda said, as the man raised an eyebrow at the price but didn't complain, bringing out four one hundred dollar bills and a fifty dollar bill.

"You want anything else before you leave? I sell all sorts of bakery goods as well" Wanda asked, causing the man to hum.

"Alright, I'll take a muffin for the road" The man said, bringing out a 5 dollar bill, which was then exchanged for two muffins, one chocolate and one blueberry.

"Thank you for shopping at the Emporium" Wanda said with a smile, as the man began to leave the shop, but not before turning back to her and speaking.

"I'll make sure to come back in the future with some books to exchange. You've got a hell of a lot of books that look mighty interesting" Constantine said, as she nodded, before he walked out of the shop, leaving Wanda alone with Teekl once again, as she sipped on her tea.

Seeing that Consantine had left, Wanda had only one thought on her mind, as she waited for the next customers to come in.

'...Seems I'll be seeing more and more League members...this'll be...interesting~'

That's the end of the chapter!

No idea about the writing for Constantine, as writing his character was...difficult. He is based around the comic version of him, not the movie version. He'll be making more appearances in the future.
