At this moment, Danzo had yet to transplant Hashirama's cells.
Originally, you had planned to strike after he cast Kotoamatsukami, when his physical and mental state would be at its weakest. You'd seize the Sharingan in one swift move. But just as you were about to make your move, a sudden flicker of hesitation crossed your mind.
And in that single moment of hesitation, Danzo shut the hidden chamber's door.
Kotoamatsukami truly lived up to its name. As a Mangekyo Sharingan technique, even though the eye wasn't used by its original wielder... even though Danzo hadn't transplanted Hashirama's cells... even though this wasn't the exact same eye Itachi once wielded to brand someone's will with an unshakable mental command...
Even so, it still managed to plant a seed within your mind.
Thankfully, you retained your awareness. Your sense of self remained intact.
You began to consider how to counteract the lingering effects of this power. Soon enough, a solution came to you—a spiritual ninjutsu you had developed yourself: Soul Slash.
As a pure mental attack, Soul Slash could naturally target and eliminate foreign entities within your spiritual world.
You had once used it in a desperate, mutually fatal clash to take down a gravely wounded Obito. You'd also used it to dispel and refine leftover Mangekyo ocular power in the past.
Though the strain on your soul was significant, it was still worth trying.
Closing your eyes, your goal this time wasn't to awaken latent bloodline power—but to focus your consciousness, to seek out any lingering traces of Kotoamatsukami in your spiritual realm... and use Soul Slash to crush them bit by bit, even refining them into your own spiritual strength.
...
[Day Four]
Another day passed in a blink.
That day, aside from eating, you did nothing but repeatedly use Soul Slash to attack the residual imprint left by Kotoamatsukami in your spiritual world—then rest to recover your Spirit.
By day's end, you had made solid progress. With just half a day more, you were confident you could completely erase its influence.
But things didn't go as planned.
Around noon, the door to the chamber opened again. After using Kotoamatsukami to manipulate your connection, Danzo didn't allow you any time alone to rest. Instead, he led you to an underground training arena.
The space was vast and pitch black. As you walked, the only sounds were your footsteps and the low mechanical hum of the ventilation system overhead.
You reached the center of the training ground and, following Danzo's instructions, sat down on the floor. He then verbally explained the method to refine chakra, afterward instructing you to begin.
At this point, once you started refining chakra, the effect of Chakra Concealment would inevitably be broken.
Fortunately, as long as you didn't refine an excessive amount—enough to rival a Chunin or Jonin—it wouldn't raise suspicion.
Moreover, physical attributes like Strength, Speed, and Endurance weren't easy to gauge unless tested directly. Most sensory-type shinobi wouldn't be able to tell unless they probed deeply. And as for the Sharingan—it could be deactivated at will.
Losing Chakra Concealment was only a minor inconvenience. The only thing you had to be careful about now was activating the Sharingan secretly. More importantly, you'd need a proper excuse for awakening it.
With that in mind, you began refining chakra decisively.
Not long after, you reached a level close to Chunin.
You stopped and told Danzo that you'd hit your limit.
Danzo nodded slightly. He brought two fingers together and touched them to his forehead. A barely perceptible fluctuation passed through your body.
Had you not previously developed your bloodline abilities—boosting your physical body and enhancing sensory perception even beyond ocular power—you wouldn't have noticed that wave at all without the Sharingan.
Danzo was sensing your chakra levels. After confirming them, he nodded approvingly.
With a casual wave of his hand, the massive floodlights above blazed to life, flooding the vast training ground with light as bright as day.
At that moment, two Root shinobi in masks entered from a passage on the far end, escorting a third man between them.
You recognized him immediately.
It was the same person who had spoken to you, brought you meals, and pretended to bond with you days ago—the same man who later attempted to assassinate you.
Other than Danzo, he was the person you'd interacted with most in Root.
You recognized him instantly—and from that, you quickly inferred what was about to happen. Knowing Root's way of doing things, you braced yourself.
To gain Danzo's trust... to survive longer in Root...
You glared with wide eyes, clenching your fists, and shouted at the man, demanding to know why he had tried to kill you.
He said nothing.
Danzo's first mission for you... was to kill him.
A kunai was placed in your hand. You took a deep breath, accepting it with trembling hands—just like a frightened, inexperienced child would. You looked equal parts nervous, excited, and confused.
As you hesitated to take a step forward, Danzo called your name. When you turned around, he had swapped his usual stern expression for a kind, grandfatherly face, gently encouraging you to complete the task.
So, kunai in hand, you approached the man.
Once again, you asked why he tried to kill you. Why did he stab a kunai into your throat? He was the first person you saw when you awoke… and you had even believed...
As you questioned him, you swung the kunai wildly, stabbing into his body.
Blood spattered, staining you red. But instead of horror, you felt yourself growing more excited. Your grip on the kunai tightened. A thrill surged through you—and you could feel your Sharingan awakening on its own.
Sensing the activation of your Sharingan jolted you back to clarity.
Now wasn't the right time to awaken both eyes with double tomoe!
But then again... Sasuke currently had a single tomoe in each eye. If you could awaken just one double tomoe eye, it would instantly prove that your value far exceeded his. Compared to the Uchiha under Hiruzen Sarutobi's watch, you'd be the far more worthwhile investment for Danzo.
With that thought, you no longer suppressed your bloodlust.
Your kunai slashed in a blur, chakra instinctively flowing into it. Blood sprayed across the floor.
Seizing the moment, you opened your left eye just as blood splashed onto your face—then let your body go limp, collapsing as if drained of all energy. You muttered weakly, words like "Why… trust… first person…"
Danzo approached and knelt beside you. You pointed to the unrecognizable corpse, asking if you had done well, your eyes filled with longing for approval—like an abandoned kitten begging for comfort.
Danzo stared intently at your left eye, noting the two tomoe. He knelt and gently wiped the blood from your face—whether it came from your eye or the dead man's, it was unclear—then touched your forehead reassuringly.
You took the opportunity to shut both eyes, diving inward into your spiritual world—splitting your focus between unlocking the power in your bloodline and continuing the battle against the remnant imprint of Kotoamatsukami.
With both mental and physical stress pushed to the limit, your chakra surged out of control...
Seeing the intense pain on your face, Danzo immediately rushed you to Root's medical facility for emergency treatment.
...
[Day Five]
Thanks to Danzo's lack of understanding about the Sharingan awakening process—and your half-truths, half-acting, and convincingly real performance—he gave up entirely on Sasuke.
Instead, he resolved to cultivate you as his Uchiha—one raised and controlled solely by him.
