Chapter 30 - Trial of Blood (1)

The moment that this figure appeared, there was a powerful pressure that fell onto me.

However, I didn't panic as I released the same red light that signified the power of the demon king.

The moment that this red light appeared, it seemed like the figure of blood was interested in me.

"Oh, so it seems like you're the demon king of this generation. But it's strange how weak you are…" The figure of blood said in a curious voice that made a bitter smile appear on my face.

But I didn't let myself be distracted by this as I said, "I'm here to take your trial."

The figure of blood just gave a casual nod before asking, "Do you even know who I am?"

"Demon King Balcor, right? The Ruler of Blood?"

"Oh, you actually know who I am. And here I thought that my generation had already been forgotten, but I guess that just goes to show how great of a demon king that I am that people still remember me to this day."

The bitter smile became even more bitter when I heard this.

After all, there was a special reason why I knew who he was.

Most people wouldn't have recognized him unless he introduced himself. After all, what he had done was considered an act of taboo and had been erased from history.

So it wasn't strange that most demons wouldn't actually remember him.

Once the figure of blood was done bragging about himself, he suddenly pointed in one direction and there was a passage that appeared. After making this passage appear, he turned back to me to say, "This will lead you to the trial."

I gave a simple nod before heading towards that passage.

I didn't look back once, but if I did…I might have seen that smile that was on the figure of blood's face.

Once I entered the passage, it soon closed behind me.

But I still wasn't surprised since this was also what had happened before in the game.

I just calmly raised my hand once I had been thrown into darkness again.

The hall had been lit by torches that lined the walls, but this passage was just completely dark. It was clear that this passage was deliberately kept in the dark.

With my hand up, I gathered flames that soon lit up this passage.

These flames spread out around the passage to completely light up the area around me. Though I made sure that they were spread to the side so that I wasn't getting rid of all my breathing air.

I could tell that there was a breeze, which meant that there was fresh air coming from the end of the passage.

Or else I might have actually choked myself with these flames.

With these flames, I could see that this passage was just like the one that I had taken to reach the main hall. Though there was also one thing that was different about this place compared to that passage.

It was the fact that the walls of this passage were completely covered in bloody handprints.

It was different from the previous passage, this time the walls were absolutely covered.

There wasn't a single part of the wall that was missing a bloody handprint.

This place seemed like it had been the site of some kind of terrifying slaughter with how the bloody handprints just completely covered the walls.

But I wasn't surprised at all.

Once again, this was something that I had seen in the game before, so I wasn't surprised…or that was what I wanted to say.

In the end, it was impossible to not be surprised by a scene like this.

But it was just being overwhelmed by the sheer number of handprints that were on the wall.

It really was quite the sight.

After that, I started following the passage.

It didn't take long for me to arrive at the end of the passage and what I found was…a cage. It wasn't a cage that was just in front of me, this was a cage that I found myself in the middle of.

Inside of the cage was what seemed to be the site of a large battle with corpses that were scattered all over the place. There was even fresh blood that was spilled all over the arena, which was strange since there shouldn't have been anyone that had come to this place in a long time.

"The first trial is a trial of combat. A demon king should not yield to any that challenge him."

As soon as the voice of Demon King Balcor fell, the corpses on the ground started to react.

They only moved slightly at first, but then they started getting up off the ground.

These corpses were quite the sight to behold as many of them were missing parts of themselves.

They had fought so fiercely that they were missing large chunks of their bodies.

But even then, they stood up and turned to face me.

The way that they looked at me made it clear what they were about to do, but I didn't pay any attention to them. Instead, I was looking at the cage around me as if I was looking for something.

Even when all of the corpses stood up and were covered in this strange layer of blood, I didn't panic as I kept looking around at the cage.

"Found it." I said with a smile before suddenly turning around and grabbing the part of the cage that was behind me.

I didn't waste any time climbing up the side of the cage.

The corpses didn't react at first when they saw me do this, but then they suddenly charged forward and started climbing the cage after me.

They all chased after me as if they wanted to grab me and drag me down with them, but I just ignored them all as I climbed up the side of the cage.

When I reached the top, I looked at the thing that I had been looking for.
