It was hard to believe that Cadis, with its sprawling expanse, was a city perched atop a plateau. Even walking in a straight line from the southern gate to the northern gate would take half a day.
The central boulevard, pristine and bustling during the day, radiated outward from the grand main square. From there, countless narrow, labyrinthine alleys branched off, twisting into the depths of the city. This layout made Cadis a fortress—difficult to invade, but once breached, a perfect haven for anyone looking to vanish.
Especially on a night like this.
The darkness hung over the city like a suffocating shroud, and the bitter chill of the winter mountains prowled through the alleys, an invisible predator hunting the unwary. Most of the city’s residents wisely bolted their doors, preferring the warmth of their hearths to the icy menace of the streets.
But not everyone feared the night.
