"This is ridiculous. How could there be aliens disguising themselves as humans?"
Maria Rambeau didn't believe Carol's story. She preferred to think that Carol had lost her memory in the plane crash and was now struggling to piece together her past.
Even her daughter Monica looked at Carol skeptically. "That's impossible, Aunt Carol. There can't be aliens on Earth!"
"Exactly," Fury said, tilting his head with raised eyebrows. "It's completely improbable that aliens would be walking among us. Even if they were, we wouldn't discuss it so casually."
Fury's meaning was clear—words alone wouldn't convince Carol's former best friend.
Carol recognized his point and stood up, walking over to the kettle.
"You don't believe me?" Her hand began to glow, and the kettle started whistling as the water inside rapidly boiled. "Is this proof enough?"
"No way! That's so cool!"
Monica jumped up in surprise and moved toward the kettle.
She was amazed by the display and wanted to examine Carol's energy powers out of curiosity.
Only Marcus curled his lips, his heart aching. The energy flowing through Carol came from the plane's engine—energy he had planned to extract into Aya Stars.
"Oh! I just remembered, your things are still here. I'll get them for you," Monica said excitedly, running to the other room.
She soon returned with a box. "Look, Aunt Carol, here are your photos!" She waved a stack of pictures. "And here's your jacket from the plane!"
Looking at the items Monica had brought, Carol fell silent as memories began to flash through her mind.
While she was lost in recollection, Marcus approached the group.
"Speaking of which, you may not believe this, but there's a Skrull sitting at the dining table outside."
Hearing this, everyone hurried out of the room. They saw 'Maria' and Monica searching for something on the plane, while a green-skinned figure sat quietly at the dining table.
He had attempted to enter through the back door but was intercepted by Marcus. If the intruder had displayed any hostile intentions, Marcus would have eliminated him instantly.
"Talos?"
Carol's hands lit up with energy as Fury raised his gun, both ready to attack.
"Can you both wait a moment?" Marcus rapped his knuckles on the table. "This guy has something to tell you, especially you, Carol."
At Marcus's insistence, they both hesitated, though Talos remained visibly nervous.
"But... can you move that thing away from me?"
The reason for Talos's submissive behavior wasn't Marcus's combat prowess, but rather Goose, whom Marcus had placed in his lap.
"Hahaha! Aliens are afraid of cats?"
Fury found the scene so amusing he could barely hold his gun steady. The others couldn't help laughing either.
"Goose isn't a cat," Marcus explained as he retrieved the orange feline from Talos's lap. "It's a cosmic creature called a Flerken. They're quite ferocious."
He scratched Goose's head, noting how surprisingly well-behaved this particular specimen was.
Once Goose was removed, Talos visibly relaxed and shook himself.
"The Flerken is truly one of the most terrifying creatures in the universe."
"Listen, I have a device recovered from the plane crash six years ago. You call it a 'black box.' It contains information about you and Dr. Lawson..."
"Mom?"
Monica, returning with the jacket from the plane, froze when she saw Maria. She turned around to find that the "mother" who had been following her had reverted to Skrull form.
"Wow! This is so cool!"
Monica shouted excitedly. She couldn't believe the aliens Carol had just described were actually standing right in front of her.
"Monica, go inside the house now!"
Maria was concerned for her daughter's safety and urged her to return indoors.
Under the threat of the "Devourer Beast," Talos and his companion explained everything and produced a recording device.
The audio contained a conversation between Carol and Lawson aboard the plane. It revealed that on the day of the crash, they weren't test-piloting the aircraft but heading to Dr. Lawson's laboratory. They'd been attacked mid-flight, resulting in the crash.
The recording triggered a flood of images in Carol's mind, her past suddenly becoming clear.
However, the audio captured more than just Lawson and Carol's voices. Several other speakers could be heard, with Marcus's voice particularly prominent.
"You were there when the plane crashed?"
Everyone turned to Marcus in surprise. They hadn't realized he'd been present during that pivotal event.
"Yeah." Nodding slightly, Marcus looked at Carol. "Six years ago, I was fighting those Kree up front, while you managed to blow up the engine and knock me into the lake."
This revelation left everyone speechless. Marcus had been battling at the front while Carol had inadvertently caused chaos behind him.
"The engine's energy surge is what made you like this," Marcus continued. "I must say, Hala's medical technology is impressive if they saved someone as badly injured as you were."
"Why do I feel like you know so much about the Kree?" Carol frowned, tilting her head as she studied Marcus. "You're not Kree yourself, are you?"
"You raise a good point. Your information isn't entirely accurate either. We only have your history from the past six years."
Fury suddenly remembered that all records of Marcus only appeared after he'd shown up alongside Howard Stark.
Seeing their suspicions, Marcus smiled.
"Don't worry, I'm not an alien. If I had a spacecraft capable of interstellar travel, you'd have seen me on Hala by now. I'm very interested in the Supreme Intelligence, after all."
"Besides, does my identity really matter right now? Shouldn't we focus on finding Mar-Vell's laboratory?"
Everyone nodded in agreement. Whatever Marcus was, he clearly had no ill intentions toward them. Moreover, the black box recording confirmed he'd been fighting against the Starforce when Carol accidentally blasted him into the water.
At the C-53 jump point, a female Starforce member frowned as she hesitated to initiate the jump.
"Captain Yon-Rogg, are we really going to planet C-53?"
She vividly remembered the battle six years ago. That strange, unreasonable man had forced them into combat, and their ship had nearly been destroyed. She had no desire to return to that planet.
Yon-Rogg understood her concerns. In truth, he shared them. It was particularly unfortunate that Vers had crashed on the planet he despised most.
Thinking of Marcus, who had nearly killed him, Yon-Rogg felt a headache forming. He desperately wanted to avoid encountering that man again.
"Initiate the jump. We'll retrieve Vers and leave immediately. We won't linger anywhere."
Observing their cautious expressions, a Starforce member who had never visited Earth looked at them in confusion.
"What's so special about planet C-53? Why do I get the feeling you're both dreading this mission?"
"It's nothing—just someone who gives me a migraine," Yon-Rogg replied. "I'm hoping we won't cross paths with him again."
