Chapter 10 - Vendetta Circuit – Chapter 10: The Forge Awakens

Ash stepped into the belly of The Forge, where the air burned with the scent of molten metal and ozone. Sparks cascaded from towering machines, old-world cyber-tech humming with life. It was a graveyard of legends—and a birthplace of rebirth. Only those who'd faced death and dared return were welcomed here.

Drex limped beside him, his mech-arm clanking with each heavy step. The old war-hound had once torn through three Syndicate battalions in a single day. He didn't talk much—but when he did, you listened.

"Still bleeding," Drex muttered, looking at Ash's wounded shoulder. "Good. Means you're still human."

Ash kept his jaw clenched. "Not for long."

Drex turned, his lone organic eye narrowing. "You want to become like them? Kael? The Syndicate freaks pumped with borrowed power and no soul?"

"I want to win," Ash said coldly. "If I have to go through hell to do that, then light the fire."

The old man growled, but motioned him forward. They passed through arched corridors etched with battle scars—names of past champions, etched in plasma.

Inside the central chamber stood an ancient upgrade pod, fused from pre-collapse tech and outlaw engineering. The Heartfire Crucible.

"You remember how this works?" Drex asked.

Ash nodded. "Pain. Screaming. Then something new rises."

"Good," Drex smirked grimly. "Because the pain's the easy part."

Juno tapped her holopad, linking Ash's vitals to the pod. "I've upgraded the stabilizers. It won't kill you—probably."

Ash removed his coat, his torso covered in old scars and light cyber-enhancements. "Let's begin."

As the pod sealed around him, molten data surged through his veins. The Crucible didn't just implant tech—it awakened something primordial. Ash's memories bled into the system: his father's last fight, Kael's betrayal, the roar of the Circuit arena, the day everything burned.

His screams echoed through the Forge.

Three hours later, silence.

The pod hissed open.

Ash stepped out—changed.

His arm, once wounded, now shined with a sleek obsidian layer of bio-plasma weave. His spine was reinforced, his reflexes enhanced, his vision clearer than ever. But more than the tech—his will had been reborn.

Drex looked him over. "You look like death."

"I am death," Ash replied.

Juno handed him a custom-forged gauntlet. "We pulled specs from your old fight styles and overclocked them."

Ash flexed his fingers. The gauntlet responded instantly, humming with energy.

Suddenly, an alert blared from Juno's system.

"BREAK IN: SECTOR ZETA – PROTOCOL BREACH – CONTACT LOST"

"Someone just raided our supply line," she gasped. "They took the memory core—Kael's next target."

Ash clenched his fist. "Then we intercept."

Sector Zeta, a former shipping bay turned war zone, was already under siege when Ash arrived. Smoke curled into the night as drones and Syndicate bots littered the area. Ash leapt from the hovercycle mid-speed, landing hard in the chaos.

Kael was there—waiting, flanked by new mercs in exo-suits. The memory core floated behind him in a zero-G stasis field.

Ash cracked his neck. "You brought backup. Cute."

Kael sneered. "You brought upgrades. Let's see if they matter."

The battle erupted.

Ash moved like a shadow with claws—fast, brutal, untouchable. His new enhancements allowed him to dodge plasma bolts mid-air, rip through armor with bare fists, and reflect energy blasts with his gauntlet.

Juno sniped from a tower above, disabling enemy drones with pinpoint EMPs.

Kael joined the fight, his blade charged with red chaos energy. Their duel was pure violence—clashing steel and explosive impacts. Buildings shook. Sparks lit the battlefield.

But this time, Ash was faster.

He disarmed Kael, spun mid-air, and slammed his gauntlet into his former brother's chest—sending him flying into a cargo container.

Kael coughed blood, still smiling. "You're not the only one who's evolved."

Suddenly, the memory core activated—revealing a map. Juno's voice came through the comm:

"Ash… that's not a map. That's the Nexus Key. A digital fragment."

Kael laughed, blood on his teeth. "There are four fragments. You just found the first. The Zero Warden already has the second."

Ash stood over him, eyes burning.

"Then I'll take the rest. One by one. Starting with him."
