Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Sun God Bloodline. SSR Rank. Upon purchase, gain the divine power of the sun and ascend as the Supreme Sun God.

Cost: 100 million [Achievement Points], 100 million [Potential Points].

Superman Bloodline. SR Rank. Upon purchase, become the almighty Superman.

Cost: 50 million [Achievement Points], 50 million [Potential Points].

— Damn, these two bloodlines together would be totally OP!

As usual, Locke was staring at the two most expensive [Bloodlines] in the [Achievement Store], dreaming.

The Sun God Bloodline was insanely powerful. And combined with the Superman Bloodline? It would make him practically invincible.

Locke often mused that even if their powers didn't multiply, they'd definitely stack.

Every time he looked at those two options, motivation surged through him like a tidal wave.

At the very least…

Just looking at them gave him hope—hope that immortality wasn't just a fantasy.

As for the cost?

Locke wasn't afraid of high prices. He was only afraid he wouldn't have enough to afford them. But since the prices were fixed, all he had to do was keep grinding until he had enough. His balance was growing day by day.

He wasn't afraid of the grind.

But still...

— …

— Hope this New York place has more quests.

He needed more [Achievement Points] and [Potential Points], but the [System] never handed out [Missions] for free.

To trigger one, Locke had to actively engage with the world and trip a "trigger."

That's why he came to New York.

Because…

More people meant more [Quest Triggers].

And more [Quests] meant more [Points].

Even earning just one [Achievement Point] brought him one step closer to buying the [Sun God Bloodline].

...

He had just transferred—and already, he got a [Practice Exam] as his first [Mission].

Back at his old school, practice exams were once a semester… if that.

But it made sense.

His last school had barely qualified as a functioning educational institution.

This new one? It was a real high school.

Back there, they pumped out broken cogs for the machine. Here, they produced elite members of society.

Well... most of the time.

Locke sat down and scanned his classmates.

The difference from a Texas high school?

Like night and day.

Pretty much what he expected from a New York academy.

But...

Where was the Spider?

Wasn't Peter Parker supposed to be from Midtown High?

Could it be he didn't exist in this version of the universe?

Suddenly, Locke blinked and noticed a girl nearby—blonde, pretty, warm smile.

Gwen Stacy.

Okay, okay, but seriously—where's the Spider?

Even Gwen was here, happily chatting with her best friend.

Then Gwen suddenly turned around and locked eyes with Locke.

He quickly looked away.

The guy had tousled blond hair and wore a standard school uniform. Nothing flashy.

— Kim, who's that?

— Oh, him? Some new transfer from Texas, I think.

— Ah. Got it.

— Hm… — Gwen nodded thoughtfully and after a moment, got up and walked straight toward Locke.

Locke raised an eyebrow, a little absentminded, as Gwen approached.

— Hey there. — Gwen stopped beside him and offered a friendly hand. — I'm Gwen. I'm your new classmate and the ninth-grade class rep. If you ever need help, don't hesitate to ask.

— Locke! — He shook her hand. — Just transferred in. Thanks, Gwen.

— No problem. Just reach out if you need anything.

— I will. Appreciate it.

Gwen smiled, then turned to watch the teacher who had just walked in and taken her seat.

Being class rep meant helping new students and being a responsible role model.

Still…

She was a little curious about how this Locke guy would do in school.

She sat down and watched him as the math teacher came in and made him introduce himself to the class. He did it with a completely blank expression.

Ten minutes later.

After the teacher introduced Locke, the math teacher stepped up with a sour face and said:

— Well, well. Since you're all in such a great mood today… how about a little practice test?

The second those words dropped, the entire classroom fell dead silent.

Then came the usual groans and desperate pleas for mercy.

Typical.

The vibe in this New York school? Pretty much the same as back in Texas.

Same friends. Same drama. Same exams.

But this test…

Locke raised an eyebrow as the teacher handed him the sheet.

One glance—and he instantly saw the difference between a garbage-tier Texas school and an "elite" New York one.

— Oh boy…

The math teacher walked over to Locke. — Is something unclear?

Locke looked at her and shook his head.

He had been reborn into this world sixteen years ago and adapted long ago.

Still...

— Hah… All for the reward!

— [System], upgrade [Mathematics]!

Ding!

Upgrade from Mathematics (Grade 8) to Mathematics (Grade 9) will cost 1000 [Potential Points]. Confirm upgrade?

— Confirm!

Ding!

Upgrade successful. Enjoy.

Whether he was "enjoying" it was debatable.

All Locke knew was that something clawed at his heart.

But still…

Any upgrade was an investment in the future.

His mind flooded with new knowledge, reshaping old memories and unlocking his mental palace of math.

He looked back down at the test paper.

This? Easy.

Life is a game.

If you can't enjoy the game…

Then what's the point?
