"I might've messed up a little... I brought up her surgery. And her mom's surrogacy..." Nadia paced the room, phone pressed to her ear, her voice low but anxious.
She paused, waiting for a response. "Come on, K. Help me out here. I just wanted to put her in her place. I know she'd go digging. She can't find out yet. Not now. All my effort will be wasted."
Another pause. Nadia groaned quietly. "Yeah, I know I fucked up big time..."
Just then, the door slammed open. Zara stumbled in, breathless, her back hitting the door as she leaned on it for support.
"You also messed up?" she gasped. "I promise it's nothing compared to mine."
Nadia's eyes widened. "I'll call you back," she muttered into the phone, quickly ending the call.
Zara pulled away from the door and slumped onto her bed.
Nadia hopped over, settling beside her. "What did you do?"
"I don't want to talk about it," She pressed her face into the pillow, not to cry—just to disappear.
