Ace didn't answer right away.
He stared into his drink, slowly turning the glass in careful circles.
"Our families are enemies..."
"I asked if you liked Zara," Kendrick cut in sharply.
Ace downed his drink in one gulp. "My feelings are none of your business," he snapped, his voice low and rough.
Kendrick's jaw clenched, but he didn't push further. Instead, he reached for the bottle again, only to realize it was empty. He waved the bartender over and handed him his card.
"And his too," he added, nodding toward Ace.
Ace smirked, casting him a sideways glance. "What, you think I can't afford a drink?"
"No," Kendrick said calmly. "I just figured since you spent a chunk bringing us here, I should handle this one."
Ace went quiet. The ladies weren't around, so there was no point keeping up a front. He leaned back and sipped the last of his drink.
As Kendrick stood to leave, Ace finally spoke.
"Why are you asking? You like her?"
