Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Nightmare From The Past

He rushed to the monitor room after Camille's words.

"Get out, I need to check something," he instructed the man who was sitting behind the monitor.

The man looked at Asher who had an urgent look on his face.

He nodded before he walked out of the monitor room.

"Okay, let's see who dropped you off," Asher talked to himself.

Asher cracked his knuckles as his fingers tapped furiously on the keyboard.

His eyes keenly searched the monitor around the time Camille returned.

"The glasses of the car are tinted, wait a minute," Asher paused, and zoomed into the monitor.

"This car plate is familiar," he spoke to himself.

"Damn it, it belongs to Shane," Asher muttered to himself.

"Fuck!" He cursed before rushing out of the monitor room.

He bumped into Cleo on the way.

"Asher, it is you I was just about to see," Cleo smiled at him.

"What do you want?" He asked, his voice sounding cold as he stared down at the girl who was in front of him.

"I heard that a new movie would be out today, I have been wanting to watch the movie, can you accompany me?" Cleo pleaded with her lips pouted.

"Why do you think I'll accompany you?" Asher eyed her, looking down at her.

Cleo looked around, unsure how to respond.

"Camille isn't here anymore, you can drop the act," Cleo smiled. She strongly believed that the two brothers were acting so that Camille would let her guard down.

Asher scoffed while staring at the self-centred lady who was standing right in front of him.

"You are really so full of yourself, the only reason you are still here is because of your mom who has served us endlessly," Asher gave her a disgusted look, and walked away without waiting for her reply.

Cleo had her mouth open as she watched Asher make his way to Camille's room.

"This can't be possible, there is no way I have lost control over the two brothers," she shook her head in denial, unable to accept the twist in events.

Meanwhile, Asher had already gotten to Camille's room.

Standing in front of her room, he raised his hands to knock before slowly dropping it.

"Who am I kidding? Even though I told her tales about Shane, she would never believe me, it is my fault that she doesn't trust me," Asher sighed with a disappointed expression.

"But I have to tell her to stay away from Shane, this is what I have to do as her big brother," Asher muttered to himself before knocking at the door.

He heard a muffled 'come in' from the other side, and he stepped into the room.

Asher looked around but could not find Camille. He figured that she could be in the bathroom.

"What are you doing here?" Contrary to what he thought, he heard her voice from the balcony.

Coughing, he walked towards her while proceeding with caution.

"What is it? Finally found out who dropped me off? Here to warn me to stay away from him?" Camille asked with folded arms.

"You don't understand, do you?" Asher asked, his voice breaking while seeing Camille's defiance.

"Do you think I'd believe you?" Camille responded with a question of hers.

"Of course, you can't believe me, it is expected," Asher bowed his head in shame.

"But you have to understand that Shane is dangerous, if you keep hanging around him, you could be in danger as well, that man attracts and plays with danger," Asher stated, a hint of pleading in his voice. He wanted Camille to stay away from him.

Camille, on the other hand, looked at Asher whose face was full of pleading. Although Shane hadn't shown any tendencies of danger, she also could not shake off the gnawing feeling at the back of her mind that he was actually dangerous.

"What do you want me to do?" Camille asked, and a bright smile appeared on Asher's face. As long as Camille was willing to stay away from Shane, then he could feel more at ease.

"It is easy, just stay away from him, that's all," he replied excitedly.

"That might actually be a difficult task, Shay....."

"Why?" Asher interrupted her, his voice sounding urgent.

"You see, Shane is Shayla's elder brother, and Shayla is my best friend, there is no way we wouldn't hang around, and I am 80% certain I might bump into Shane because of that," Camille explained to him.

"This is messed up," Asher whispered to himself.

He had met Shayla before, and he knew that she was a sweet girl despite her sharp tongue.

"How could she be his sister? This makes the whole issue complicated," he continued speaking to himself.

"What are you even talking about? You are not making any sense at all," Camille was so confused by Asher's words, and all she wanted was clarity.

"I'll tell you, I'll be back," he said, then walked out of her room.

Camille exhaled before taking her seat on the bed.

She picked up her phone, then sent a text message to Shayla.

After a few minutes, a call came in.

"Hello, who is this?" She asked, after seeing that it was an unknown number. She shouldn't have picked it though, but she was curious to see who called.

"Hi Camille," she heard a familiar voice, but she couldn't pinpoint where she had heard it before.

"Who is this?" Camille questioned again, her entire body tensed up.

"How can you forget your childhood friend? Is that how little you think of our friendship?" The voice came from the other end, and there was a feigned hurt in the voice.

Camille didn't say anything, but she was searching through her memory to see if she had forgotten any childhood friends, that was if she had one.

Her brothers had always kept her hidden, and wouldn't let her make friends.

It was only when she got to senior high school that she was allowed to attend a normal school, and this was why she had an awkward social interaction.

"I'm sorry, but I didn't have any friends during my childhood, you must have the wrong number," Camille replied with a cold voice.

"Don't tell me you have forgotten about Sam?" The voice laughed.

Her grip on the phone slipped slightly. She froze. That name!

She hadn't heard it in years, but it still crawled under her skin, it still shattered her breath. Sam!

A nightmare she thought she'd buried, but now whispering in her ear again.
