Chapter 17 :I am really disappointed in you.
Beside Nora Mills stood Samir, dressed head to toe in luxury brands. Chasel Mills frowned slightly. He hadn't expected to run into Nora and her entourage here.
It wasn't that he was afraid of encountering Nora; rather, he was worried that if he greeted her or said anything, Belle might catch on to the fact that he was hired by Michelle Allen to pretend to be her father. After all, only Chasel knew that he was actually Belle's real father.Chasel glanced over at Michelle Allen. Clearly, she had thought of this too. She nodded at him and led Belle away.
"Daddy, hurry up! Mom and I are waiting for you!" Belle called back, casting a reluctant glance at Chasel as she left. She didn't want to part from him, even for a moment.
Chasel smiled and nodded at Belle, softly assuring her, "Daddy will be there soon!"
"Daddy?" Nora Mills's eyes widened in disbelief, her face a mask of shock. "When did you have a daughter?"As her words hung in the air, Nora felt an emptiness in her heart, a wave of discomfort and disappointment washing over her.
Before Chasel Mills could respond, Samir spoke up casually, "That shouldn't be his daughter!"
"What do you mean?" Li Nan frowned and looked at Samir.
Samir chuckled, "That woman seems to be the CEO of Qingwan Creative. It's a small company that collaborated with us on an advertising project. A few days ago, she was publicly recruiting a personal assistant, which is basically just looking for a dad for her child. A lot of people know about it."
"It seems Chasel Mills went for the interview and actually got the job. No wonder I tried to arrange a position for him, and he turned it down. This job is definitely better than what I offered him," Samir said with a hint of sarcasm.
To be honest, Michelle Allen, with her sophisticated charm and stunning looks, was quite captivating—even for Samir. However, Michelle was a single mother, and among the elite who knew her, her lifestyle choices were often judged harshly.
Samir prided himself on being part of the upper class, believing he could only accept women who had never been with anyone else. Otherwise, he might have been attracted to Michelle.
After Samir finished speaking, someone from the group of men and women accompanying him let out a light laugh, "In other words, he's just a kept boy by a rich woman!"
At these words, Nora Mills's expression changed slightly. She recalled running into Chasel Mills yesterday morning right outside the office building. At that time, he was holding a resume. It seemed he really did go for the interview. Samir was telling the truth!
Chasel Mills maintained his smile, but there was a hint of coldness in his eyes as he looked at Samir.
"Since he has made himself clear, I'll take my leave!"
Chasel said to Nora Mills before turning to walk away.
However, he had already made up his mind to find a time to have a serious talk with his adoptive father. He needed to convince him to talk to Nora about Samir.
This guy was not a suitable match! On the surface, he seemed like a gentleman, but in reality, he was deeply scheming.
"Wait a minute!"
Just then, a flicker of hesitation crossed Nora's face, but she ultimately called out to Chasel.
Then she turned to Samir and said, "Samir, you guys go ahead. I'll catch up in a bit."
With that, she hurried after Chasel.
Samir's expression darkened immediately."Samir, man, you need to keep an eye on that pretty boy,"
the person who had previously mocked Chasel as a pretty boy leaned in close to Samir, whispering a warning.
At those words, a shadow of gloom fell over Samir's eyes. How could he not know who Chasel Mills was?
When Samir began pursuing Nora Mills, he had already done his homework on her family background. He knew that before Chasel Mills went to prison, he had a close relationship with Nora, and even Gilberto Mills had verbally arranged a childhood engagement between them. Their relationship had always been somewhat ambiguous before Chasel was incarcerated. However, since Chasel was in prison, Samir didn't pay much attention to it.
But now, just as he was about to get engaged to Nora, Chasel had returned.Ever since Chasel came back, Samir noticed that Nora seemed to have lost some of her warmth toward him. They had been dating for a year, yet Nora had never let him get intimate, claiming she wanted to save those precious moments for their wedding night.
At first, Samir could accept this; he thought it was admirable that Nora valued her purity and was different from other women who were more carefree. So, whenever he felt the urge, he would sneak around behind Nora's back.
But now, Samir couldn't help but think more deeply. Was Nora truly preservingher purity? Or was she afraid that after being intimate, he might discover something?
Just then, the gloom on Samir's face faded away. A warm smile appeared as he playfully scolded, "If you keep talking nonsense, I might just lose my temper! I know Nora well, and I trust her. Now, let's head to the private room."
With that, Samir led the way toward the luxurious private room they had already booked.
It was as if he had reached the pinnacle of trust in Nora Mills.Nora Mills caught up with Chasel Mills. "I told you to wait! Why didn't you wait for me?"
Nora's expression was far from pleasant.
"My daughter is waiting for me!" Chasel replied calmly.
Ever since this morning, when Chasel learned about Belle and saw her crying while waiting for him, he had no desire to make Belle wait again. He didn't want that to happen anymore.
Besides, he knew that Nora had come after him to say something."You really have a sense of professionalism, don't you? All you can talk about is your daughter," Nora said coldly, anger etched across her delicate features. "I see you're in such a hurry; it's not to find your daughter but to chase after that female CEO, isn't it?"
"Nora, Belle is truly my daughter. Five years ago..."
Chasel couldn't bring himself to be angry with Nora; he just wanted to explain things to her properly. However, before he could finish his sentence, Nora interrupted him sharply, "Don't call me Nora. You don't deserve to."Chasel was left speechless.
After a moment, he finally spoke again, "You don't even want to hear my explanation?"
"What else is there to explain?" Nora Mills said, her face filled with disappointment.
"You said you didn't want to work at Samir's company, and I thought about it and understood. After all, your pride has always been strong."
"But I thought that five years in prison would make you reflect and want to turn your life around. With your abilities, even with that prison record, you might not reach the heights you once did, but if you put in the effort, you could still build a decent career."
"I never expected that after getting out, you would lie to your parents. Now, you've sunk so low that you're willing to be someone else's trophy boyfriend."
"Chasel Mills, I am truly disappointed in you
