The Devil's Bride
By Rapwizzy Debaron
Episode 84: Gatekeeper of the End
The storm howled—not wind, not flame—but time itself unraveling.
Lucian stood at the center of the collapse, every breath tearing at his soul. The words echoed over and over in his mind.
> "You're not just the devil's heir… You're the Gatekeeper."
The colossal being—the Origin Flame, the ancient creator-devourer—towered above them, his form flickering like memory caught in fire. His voice rumbled from the cracks of existence.
> "The Gate must open. Through him."
Seraphina grabbed Lucian's arm, her voice shaking. "Tell me it's not true."
Lucian couldn't speak.
Because it was.
Memories long sealed clawed at the edge of his mind. A cradle surrounded by flame. A mother's scream. A voice in the dark whispering promises before he ever had a name.
> "You will be the Key. You will be the Curse."
"I was born in fire…" Lucian said slowly, his hands trembling, "…but not the devil's. Something older. Something worse."
Aureon floated above the ruins, his small body still held by the sigil. His voice no longer his own.
> "The child is the spark. But you, Lucian… you are the door."
Gabriel raised his trumpet, but Seraphina shouted, "No! If you sound it now, you'll rip open every veil—heaven, hell, everything!"
The Moon Priests began a chant, desperately trying to seal the Gate. Their voices unified—but cracks began to form across their skin. The spell was killing them.
The Chainbreaker roared, charging the Origin Flame. "Then we die breaking fate!"
He struck.
And was flung across space with a single wave of the being's hand.
Lucian stepped forward. Each footfall was agony, like the world rejecting his existence.
He faced the Origin Flame. "You used me."
> "I made you," the Flame replied.
Seraphina's wings flared. "No. I made him. Through love. Through war. Through everything we've endured."
Lucian's eyes began to glow—not with hellfire, not with divine light—but with something ancient. The Gate was awakening in him.
The Origin Flame extended a finger, and Lucian collapsed, clawing at his chest.
A key was forming—inside his heart.
"No!" Seraphina screamed, wrapping her arms around him. "I won't lose you!"
> "You never had him," the Flame whispered.
But Seraphina's light exploded.
She didn't burn.
She ascended.
Wings turned to flame, hair like starlight, eyes blazing with the combined power of every life she'd saved, every sacrifice she'd made.
She lifted Lucian's body. "You are not their gate. You are our hope."
Lucian gasped, the glow shifting.
The key became unstable.
Inside him—another voice rose. One he hadn't heard since the beginning.
> "Lucian… choose."
It wasn't the devil.
It wasn't the Flame.
It was him.
His true self.
And in that moment, he reached out—not with power—but with choice.
He grabbed Seraphina's hand.
Their hearts pulsed together.
And the Gate shuddered.
The Origin Flame recoiled. "What are you doing?!"
Lucian stood. Taller. Brighter. Both flame and light converging.
"I'm not your Gate," he said.
"I'm the one who shuts it."
And with Seraphina beside him, he raised his hand—
—and closed the sky.
