Episode 49: The Forgotten Brother
The battlefield had fallen still, ashes swirling in the air like ghostly snowflakes.
Juvia stared at the young man before her. The name Kai echoed in her mind like a memory she couldn't placeābut her heart recognized him before her thoughts could.
"You're⦠my brother?" she asked slowly, eyes wide.
Kai stepped closer, lowering his bow. "In this life, and the one before it."
Juvia stumbled back slightly. "No. I don't remember⦠I don't remember a life before this."
He nodded with understanding. "Because it was taken from you. Wiped clean by the Queen to protect her lies."
Ha-jun stood tensely between them, sword still drawn. "How do we know you're not just another shadow playing games?"
Kai met his gaze with calm defiance. "Because I bled for her lies too. And I was cast out when I refused to kill my own blood."
Juvia's lips trembled. "Why didn't you find me sooner?"
"I tried," Kai said. "But you were hidden behind seven seals. The fire inside you? That's the last seal breaking. It's why she's hunting you harder now."
Behind them, the Queen's daughter snarled as she disappeared into a pool of blood and shadow. Her parting words echoed faintlyā"You can't protect her forever."
Juvia turned back to Kai. "What do you know about her?"
"She was born from the Queen's obsession with power. Crafted from sacrifice. I watched her destroy our kin and smile while doing it."
A silence passed, heavy and uncertain.
Kai looked up at the broken sky. "She's not the real threat anymore."
Juvia frowned. "What do you mean?"
"She's just the beginning. The Queen didn't just enslave the moon's magic⦠she fractured the timelines. She created versions of us, scattered across dimensions, testing fate over and over until she found one where she could win."
Ha-jun stepped forward. "Are you saying⦠this world isn't real?"
Kai's eyes darkened. "It's real enough. But it's only one piece. The war she started has echoed across lifetimes. And now, they're bleeding into each other."
Suddenly, a ripple of blue light surged across the skyālike a glitch in reality.
The ground shook.
Juvia gasped as images flashed before her eyesāherself in different eras: A warrior queen. A hunted thief. A child cradled in moonlight. And always⦠always Ha-jun beside her.
She clutched her head. "What's happening to me?"
Kai caught her before she fell. "You're remembering."
He turned to Ha-jun. "You've seen it too, haven't you? Her⦠in other lives."
Ha-jun nodded slowly. "Only in dreams. But yes."
Kai's expression was grave. "Those aren't dreams. They're warnings. The Queen is using the fractures to send her essence through time. She plans to possess Juvia in the timeline where she's strongest."
Juvia's voice broke. "And if she succeeds?"
Kai looked at her, his eyes heavy with sorrow. "Then the moon dies. Forever."
A silence settled. Then Juvia stood tall, fire crackling in her veins again.
"Then we fight. In every lifetime. We burn her name out of history."
Kai smiled faintly. "That's the sister I remember."
"But we need allies," Ha-jun said. "We can't win this alone."
Kai nodded. "Then it's time we awaken the ones who still remember."
He pulled out a small crystal and tossed it in the air. It burst into glowing shards, and from within the light, six ghostly figures emergedāeach wearing the sigil of the Celestial Guard.
Juvia's eyes widened. "I thought they were legendsā¦"
Kai's voice was low. "No. They were just waiting⦠for you."
