Chapter 9 - Destined Rivals

"I WON'T CALL ANYBODY ELSE ANOTHER TIME!!!" Elaine yells with a spatula in her hand

Kenzo who was next to her smile in amusement

"I don't find it funny." Elaine says to him

Seleph springs up from his bed and dashes into the kitchen and sits down

"And what do you think you're doing, mister?" Elaine says with anger to Seleph

"Geh!!" Seleph makes in fear as he gets back up and sprints to the bathroom

At the same time, downstairs, Elaine and Kenzo were placing down the plates with eggs and sausages on the table. Adam and Eve sit down at their places, obviously, that was only because Elaine saw them go into the bathroom to brush their teeth and clean up

"He sure is something else." Elaine says as she starts eating

Seleph sits down with a silly smile and giggles. This simple scene made it obvious that their familial bond had exponentially grown during the past year

"So... it's tonight, huh?" Kenzo says with a pitiful smile has he watch the children watching the tv in the living room. "The Arcanet."

"Why do you look sad, huh?" Seleph says to Kenzo with a silly grin. "The great Seleph over here will pass the test with flying colors!!!"

Kenzo looks at Seleph and smiles. No matter how much he tried, the only smile he could put out was one of pity. He gets up and sits down on the couch next to Adam

"What do you think of the moon, Adam?" Kenzo asks while looking at the tv

Elaine who was washing her own dish stops

"It's beautiful." Adam answers without much thought as he continues to read a book. "Why?"

"I was wondering why you kept going on the roof to stare at the moon each night." Seleph answers as he looks at Adam who stopped reading

"ENOUGH ABOUT ADAM!!" Seleph yells with a large smile. "We should start to prepare the celebration for when I pass the Arcanet!"

"Shut up, Seleph." Eve says annoyed. "The test isn't just about having arcane energy; it's also about the amount of arcane energy you have."

"And I'm telling you that I have a ton of it." He replies with a confident smirk. "If that crazy Nala passed, then there's no way I can't."

"What do you mean, crazy?" Elaine asks after sitting down. "Nala's an incredible girl."

"Yeah, and she's a little crazy too." Seleph repeats

Elaine takes out her phone from her pocket and looks at the time with a sadness

"It's time to go." Elaine says while getting up

Seleph and Eve get up with smiles and excitement and runs to the door. The family leaves and walks to the Scalae which they use to head to the fourth floor but right before the platform stops, when it shows the number 3, Adam frowns

"What were your parents like, Adam?" Elaine says when she notices her expression

"You don't have to answe-" Kenzo says while looking at Elaine

"I don't remember much from back then." Adam admits with a frown as he cuts Kenzo

The others look at him surprised

"What do you mean?" Kenzo asks with worry

"I clearly remember my father's last words before he left me in the orphanage... I also remember... my mother's... last moments." Adam says with a frown as he scans through his memories. "I... I... I can't... the rest is blurry."

Kenzo looks at Adam with seriousness

"Memory loss is a possible side effect of the pill. However, is the pill really the cause of this?" Kenzo thought while looking at Adam seriously

"Maybe you'll remember if you go back to your house." Eve says with a hand on Adam's shoulder

Adam nods as he also thinks that it could be the key to getting back his memory. More importantly, he needed to go back to his house to get what his father left for him

"I might not remember a lot about them, but I clearly remember how much love and care they gave me back then." He says while looking down with a sad smile

Kenzo puts his hand on Adam's hand and ruffles his hair

"That's all that matters, right?" Kenzo says with a smile

Adam smiles, a small one but a smile regardless, one that didn't have a hint of sadness

"Right." He replies

The platform stops and the doors open, revealing one of the many cities on the fourth floor, Leoneo City. The city Elaine's family, the Leoneo's, oversees. The city was vastly different from the ones on the second floor. Unlike the second floor, where the cities resembled medieval cities, the Leoneo city was massively advanced. Skyscrapers, high-rise buildings, cars, bikes, traffic lights, skateboards, and lots of other things you wouldn't see on the second or first floor

"WHAT ARE THOSE!?" Seleph yells while looking at a passing SUV

Eve was just as curious but was better at hiding her excitement. As for Adam, while he was impressed by all those new things he had never seen, he wasn't curious at all

"The level of advancement is incredible on this floor, isn't it?" Kenzo asks as he steps out of the platform and cautiously approaches the black limousine parked on the side of the road

The driver gets down and opens the passenger door

"Let's go in." Elaine says as she enters the car through the door opened by the driver

After a relatively long ride, the car stops before the Leoneo estate

"We've arrived." The driver says after opening the car door

"This... is...crazy." Seleph says as he looked around the large estate with his mouth wide open

The five of them enter the mansion through the front door. Inside, servants were running around with various things in hand. The elevator door suddenly opened and a young boy with dark red hair and green eyes possessing the beautiful shine of an emerald was standing in it. The young boy was wearing a suit that was obviously expensive and was not only the same age as Adam but also the same height. Next to him stood a man that looked like he was in his late twenties. He stood at 6'0, had brown hair and eyes and a commoner's appearance

"What is the meaning of this, Hector?" The young boy asks as he watch Adam with a bit of anger

Adam, who rarely responds to provocations, stares back at the boy with anger. Seeing that, both Seleph and Eve were taken by surprise

"They are your sister's adopted children, young master." Hector answers

Elaine smiles at her younger brother

"It's been a while since we've last seen each other, Noah." She says with a smile

"What is the meaning of this, sister?" Noah asks with a frown containing anger as he looks at Adam and the others

"Bringing commoners to this party, what exactly are you thinking?" Noah asks. "Do you realize what will happen tonight?"

"We're also here to take the Arcanet." Adam answers before Elaine could

The two stare at each other with anger. That day, at that very moment, the two acknowledged that they didn't like each other and that sentiment would give birth to the biggest rivalry. One that would mark the tower's history
