Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Void's Wrath

As Marcus's words hung in the air, void energy enveloped his body, transforming him into the Void Reverberation.

Swish!

The energy blade's power intensified, gradually overwhelming Yon-Rogg's arm device under its relentless assault.

Realizing his equipment couldn't withstand such an attack, Yon-Rogg rolled across the floor while firing at Marcus.

"Kill him!" he commanded.

At his order, several Starforce members deployed their most powerful weapons and opened fire on Marcus.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Energy cannons blasted toward the Void Reverberation, seemingly burying Marcus beneath the barrage.

"Is that all you've got?"

Marcus's voice emerged from within the bombardment. With a flash of light, the Void Reverberation burst through the artillery fire and charged toward the female Kree.

"Ah!" Marcus seized her by the throat, lifting her off the ground. "You're quite beautiful! If I recall correctly, we met six years ago."

His grip tightened around her neck as she struggled desperately, to no avail.

"Minn-Erva!"

Yon-Rogg shouted. Minn-Erva was his second-in-command. He activated the devices on his arms again, telekinetically hurling objects from around the laboratory toward Marcus.

Seeing the projectiles approach, Marcus pulled Minn-Erva in front of him as a shield.

"Look how concerned your commander is for your safety!"

As he spoke, the fragments covering his body began to float upward. A void crack opened as Marcus threw Minn-Erva back toward her teammates.

"I meant what I said—none of you are escaping today."

With those words, his Truth Whisper ability activated. More powerful void energy wrapped around the energy blade, emitting intense fluctuations as the weapon glowed with increasing brightness.

Marcus swung the blade, effortlessly slicing through the flying objects. Though his movements appeared simple, his attacks resembled a curtain of rain—penetrating all defenses and coming at Yon-Rogg from every direction.

Having experienced Marcus's strange abilities before, Yon-Rogg had no intention of engaging him in close combat. The moment Marcus advanced, Yon-Rogg began retreating. The energy devices in his hands continuously controlled surrounding objects to attack Marcus while he maintained his distance.

"Your attacks may be impressive, but they're meaningless if they can't hit their target," Yon-Rogg taunted.

To prevent a repeat of their encounter six years ago, he had significantly upgraded his equipment. Now his technology clearly gave him an advantage. Marcus's monstrous form might be powerful, but that meant nothing if he couldn't land a hit.

Marcus appeared increasingly frustrated by Yon-Rogg's mockery. He attacked more frantically, yet couldn't seem to touch him.

"Hahaha, it seems you've made no progress these past six years!"

Seeing Marcus attack like an enraged beast, Yon-Rogg displayed a smug smile.

Whoosh!

A green beam suddenly shot toward Yon-Rogg's arm, instantly destroying one of his devices.

"Minn-Erva, you—"

Whoosh!

Before Yon-Rogg could finish berating Minn-Erva, the energy blade in Marcus's hand projected a concentrated beam, severing his other arm with its intact device.

"Well done, beautiful!"

Marcus smiled as his energy blade immediately pierced through Yon-Rogg's chest.

Minn-Erva nodded at Marcus and returned his smile.

She had been under Marcus's control the entire time. The void crack earlier wasn't random—it was for "Accusation," one of the three lost skills accompanying the Void Reverberation.

Marcus had deliberately thrown Minn-Erva back to her team. He wanted to witness their reactions when betrayed by someone they trusted implicitly.

By now, three other Starforce members lay fallen at her feet.

As Yon-Rogg felt his body being torn apart by the energy blade, a holographic image appeared from his hand.

"Accuser, destroy this cruiser—"

Before he could finish, Marcus's blade severed his head, spraying blue blood across the floor.

"Accuser? Ronan? This mission just became much more rewarding."

Marcus murmured to himself. This unexpected development surprised him—Yon-Rogg had summoned the Kree Empire's infamous butcher.

Ignoring the holographic message from Yon-Rogg's hand, Marcus approached Minn-Erva.

"I must say, you are stunning," he said, expressing his genuine first impression.

Minn-Erva lowered her head shyly, appearing embarrassed by his compliment.

Thwip!

The energy blade pierced her chest. Marcus embraced Minn-Erva and smiled: "You remind me of one of my former students—another blue-skinned beauty. Unfortunately for you, I'm not particularly fond of blue people."

Minn-Erva's pupils dilated, her expression shifting from surprise to regret. The fatal wound broke her free from his mental control, but regaining her senses now was meaningless. She would follow Yon-Rogg into death.

Leaving her body behind, Marcus walked unhurriedly from the laboratory. Fury and the others had already fled, even Carol—who had been releasing her full power—had taken cover outside.

Moving through the ship, Marcus passed several fallen Kree bodies.

"Where did everyone go?"

Marcus saw no one else along his path, as if all life aboard the vessel had vanished.

When he reached the hangar where they'd landed, he found it crowded with people—numerous Skrulls had gathered there, with Carol and the others watching the entrance warily.

"Stop!"

Carol fired an energy blast that landed beside Marcus.

"Who are you? What happened to Yon-Rogg and his team? Where's Marcus?"

They hadn't witnessed Marcus's transformation into the Void Reverberation and were suspicious of his altered appearance.

"No time, Carol!" Marcus said while reverting from Void Reverberation to his human form. "Do you know Ronan the Accuser? Yon-Rogg called him here."

Marcus's transformation astonished everyone, and his warning made all the Skrulls tremble.

They knew exactly who Ronan the Accuser was. At the mere suspicion of Skrull presence on a planet, the fanatic would simply destroy the entire world.

"Let's go have some fun with Ronan," Marcus said to Carol.

Though Carol's current strength only slightly exceeded Yon-Rogg's, she possessed an ability Marcus's armor lacked—the power to fly through space.

Marcus felt a twinge of envy for Carol's flight ability, as his armor couldn't traverse the cosmos.

As they spoke, the space outside the ship began to shimmer as multiple vessels materialized around the cruiser.

"Looks like they've arrived. Let's go!"

Marcus transformed back into the Void Reverberation and walked with Carol into the vacuum of space.

Carol surrounded herself with energy as Marcus grabbed her arm, and together they flew toward the approaching armada.

"Open fire!"

Looking at the Imperial cruiser, Ronan issued the attack command. Weapon systems on each vessel activated, launching massive missiles with green exhaust flames toward Mar-Vell's laboratory.
